Caritera

Finland as the Pilot. America as the Opportunity.

From Finland to America — Could Caritera Be Much Bigger Than We Think?

I’ve always had a dream of starting a company in the United States.

Touko Raudasoja Arizona

I’ve been to America many times over the years, and there’s something about the country that has always fascinated me. Especially Arizona. Scottsdale made a strong impression on me.

I could honestly see myself living there for several years.

But there is an even bigger dream behind that:

To build a business in America.

For a long time, that was just a dream.

Now, with Caritera, it suddenly feels a little more real.

Finland as the pilot. America as the opportunity.

Caritera is being built in Finland.

Finland is a great place to start. We can develop the platform, test the concept, listen to users and improve the product step by step.

And that is exactly what we are doing.

The platform is already usable. It is continuously developing, but this is no longer just an idea on paper.

And then something interesting happened.

Our first customer came from Florida.

We have also received very positive feedback from the United States.

That got me thinking.

What if Finland is not where Caritera ends?

What if Finland is where Caritera starts?

The difference in market size is huge

Finland has around 5.6 million people.

The United States has more than 340 million.

That is more than 60 times the population of Finland.

And when you look at cars, the difference becomes even more obvious.

Finland has roughly 3.8 million passenger cars.

The United States has almost 300 million registered motor vehicles.

Of course, those numbers are not exactly the same category. But they show the scale of the opportunity.

And cars are only one part of what Caritera could eventually be about.

Boats.

Machinery.

Homes.

Recreational equipment.

Vehicles.

Other valuable assets.

There is a huge amount of property changing hands every day.

And there are millions of people looking for exactly what someone else already owns.

Could Caritera reach 100,000 active users?

This is something I have started thinking about seriously.

Could Caritera one day have 100,000 active users in the United States?

From a Finnish perspective, that sounds enormous.

But put it into the context of the American market.

100,000 users would represent only around 0.03% of the U.S. population.

About three people out of every 10,000.

What about one million active users?

That would still be less than 0.3% of the U.S. population.

I am not saying these numbers are easy.

They are not.

Getting 100,000 or one million active users would require a great product, strong marketing, trust, good partnerships, smart customer acquisition and a lot of hard work.

But a large market gives you something a small market simply cannot provide in the same way:

room to grow.

Caritera is not just another marketplace

This is what I find particularly interesting about Caritera.

Why should we wait until someone decides to put an asset up for sale?

What if we could help find the buyer before the actual listing even exists?

You have something.

We help find the buyer.

Or the other way around:

You are looking for something.

We help you find it.

That is the idea behind Caritera.

Connecting demand and supply earlier.

Not just waiting for a seller to create a listing and hoping the right buyer happens to find it.

And the bigger the network becomes, the more powerful that idea could potentially become.

Maybe America requires an investor

There is another side to this dream.

Entering the U.S. market properly costs money.

Setting up a company is one thing.

Building a real business in America is something completely different.

Marketing.

Customer acquisition.

Sales.

Local partnerships.

Legal and accounting.

People.

Travel.

And, most importantly, enough capital to give the company time to grow.

That makes me think that if Caritera takes the step into the United States, bringing the right investor or strategic partner along could make a lot of sense.

Not just someone who invests money.

Someone who understands the opportunity.

Someone who knows the American market.

Someone who can open doors.

Because I don’t want to build Caritera just to say that I have a company in America.

I want to see how big this can actually become.

The product is already here

This is perhaps the most important part for me.

Caritera is not just an idea anymore.

The platform exists.

It works.

It is being developed every day.

People are using it.

And we are getting very good feedback from the United States.

Our first customer is already in Florida.

That changes the question.

We are no longer asking:

“Could we build something like this someday?”

The question becomes:

“How far could we take it?”

And then there is the personal dream

Behind all of this business thinking is something very personal.

I have visited the United States many times.

Arizona has always stayed with me.

Especially Scottsdale.

I could imagine living there for years.

Or maybe Florida.

And there is something pretty exciting about the fact that our first American customer is already from Florida.

Imagine this:

A company started in Finland.

A Finnish pilot market.

A platform developed step by step.

The first customer in Florida.

Positive feedback from the United States.

And eventually, perhaps, the opportunity to actually live in America while building the company there.

That would be a dream come true.

Not just visiting America.

Not just talking about doing business there.

But actually being there.

Meeting people.

Building relationships.

Finding partners.

Building Caritera.

And seeing what a Finnish idea can become in a market of more than 340 million people.

What if?

I don’t know if Caritera will reach 10,000 users.

I don’t know if it will reach 100,000.

I don’t know if one day it could reach one million.

I don’t know whether the first major U.S. opportunity will come from Florida, Arizona, or somewhere completely different.

And I certainly don’t know yet whether I will ever end up living in Scottsdale.

But for the first time, the dream feels connected to something real.

Finland can be the pilot.

America can be the opportunity.

And maybe that first customer in Florida is more than just our first American customer.

Maybe it is the first small sign that Caritera can work far beyond Finland.

Because the world is a very big place.

There are billions of people.

There are hundreds of millions of vehicles.

And there is an enormous amount of property being bought, sold and searched for every day.

The opportunity is there.

Now we have to build something good enough to take it.

Maybe the journey starts in Finland.

Maybe the next chapter starts in America.

And maybe, one day, I’ll look back and realize that the dream of doing business in America actually started with Caritera.

Give your car or your home a passport of its own.
